Mary Jane “Janie” Bryant of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on May 27, 2021 in Denver, Colorado. She was born June 7, 1945 in Americus, Georgia to the late Lt. Bill Bryant and Martha McArthur Campbell. Janie graduated from Druid Hills High School in 1964 and Dekalb Technical College in 1965.
Janie’s family was most important to her. Her creativity and dedication were shown in the role she played in the community and in her children’s social groups. She served as a Cub Scout Den Leader, a Girl Scout Pack Mother, a soccer team Mom, and a Fernbank PTA Board Member. She was well known for her good cooking and ability to feed big groups at the Glenn Memorial Church’s Wednesday night dinners and the campers at Camp Cherokee for Boys.
Once her kids were grown and living on their own, she set out to shift her most passionate hobby to a career in horticulture. Her “green thumb” in gardening led to a successful career at Hastings Nature and Garden Center in Buckhead, Georgia. Once Hastings closed, she worked in administration at Southeastern Findings until she retired and moved to Colorado.
There was nothing that brought more joy to her than to be “Grandma Janie” and then “Nana” to her grandchildren, Nathan and Leah Myers, Carson and Charlie Cooper, and Caitlin and Alyssa Gesualdo. She enjoyed sharing her love for nature with weekend hikes and picnics to Stone Mountain, trips to the beach and encouraged them to build their palate by trying various ethnic cuisines along Buford Hwy.
Janie is survived by the father of her children, Forrest Myers Sr. of Marietta, her son Forrest Myers Jr. (Kimberly) of Stone Mountain, her daughters Michele Cooper (Greg) of Tucker, Tricia Gesuado (Chris) of Colorado, Lisa Myers of Lilburn, and her 6 grandchildren. Also, her brother Rusty Campbell of Columbus, Martha Ann Battles (Jim) of Alabama, Kim Brown of Florida and her nieces, nephews and cousins.
There is comfort in knowing Janie has been greeted by her life partner Marc Sanders, her parents, and her favorite feline and canine kids who predeceased her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Stone Mountain Park, Georgia. Those who wish to remember Janie in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the LifeLine Animal Project.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on the adjoining Tribute Wall.
