Marvin Sturbaum

January 23, 1938 — December 28, 2022

Longmont

Marvin Leo Sturbaum, 84, passed away quietly in his sleep, at home, on December 28, 2022. He was born on the family farm near Iliff, Colorado on January 23, 1938 to parents, Eleanor and J.H.(Harry) Sturbaum . He had five siblings: Donald, Rita, Gerald (Jerry), Sharon and Mary Ellen. Marvin grew up in Iliff and graduated from Iliff High School in 1956. He married Rosemary (Rose) Sevalt, whose family also lived in Iliff and attended school with her from the first grade on. They married on November 25, 1956 at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Iliff. In the first years of marriage, Marvin and Rose resided in Sterling, Colorado while he attended Northeastern Junior College, studying for a business degree. He continued with his studies, both at the University of Northern Colorado and CU-Colorado Springs.  Marvin worked many years for Hendrie and Bolthoff Manufacturing and Supply Company, both in Sterling and Denver. He later had a twenty-one- year career with Sears and Roebuck, and after semi-retirement, continued working in the grocery business and for a local electronics company.  At the heart of Marvin was a creative mind who spent many an hour at the kitchen table, thinking, and sketching his inventions on any spare piece of paper or napkin available. It gave him satisfying pleasure to provide solutions via his ideas.

Marvin felt a deep love and devotion towards his family, especially for his beloved wife, Rose. The larger extended family held a special place in his heart.  He treasured family gatherings and learning about its history, chronicling the information into little books for his daughters. It was his hope that family connections would continue well into the future.

He had an abiding love and respect for his country and spent many hours learning about its history and keeping up with current events. Reading about historical events, places and people was a lifelong interest.

Marvin was longtime member of Saint Theresa Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rose, and daughters, Shelley (Glenn) Durant, Lisa Sturbaum, Stephanie Moss and DeeDee (Dana) Patten; grandchildren, Carly (Nolan) Haynes, Kyle (Sammie) Moss, Caty Patten, Bridgit Patten, Merryn Durant; great-grandchildren, Jayson and Kendall (Carly) Moss, Natalie and Allison (Kyle) Moss.
