Martha Otis

Martha Elisabeth Otis Hohmann 76 of Aurora, Colorado passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 20, 2012 at the Cherry Creek Nursing home.
A committal service will be held on Thursday, October 25th, 2012, 2:00pm at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Blvd. in Denver, Area "A".
Martha was born in Oberellenbach, Germany on September 15, 1936 to Johannes and Martha Hohmann. Martha was one of 10 children growing up in a very small rural village. Martha's mother passed away when she was very young. Martha's older siblings then looked after her and helped her finish school through the 8th grade and then continued to work on a farm. Martha's childhood was extremely tough as they lived in a very poor environment and Martha and her siblings all had to work and make their own life at a very young age. Even though Martha moved to the United States in 1959, she and her siblings remained close and she visited Germany often. Martha was married to James Perry Otis on January 2, 1959; they were married for 48 years before he passed away on March 7, 2004.
Martha was a homemaker, and she enjoyed baking and doting on her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening when she was younger, reading, watching western movies, and spending time with her family. She was also actively involved in volunteering in helping seniors with housecleaning. During the last years of her life she was lovingly assisted by her children Theresa Corbin, Heidi Kimball and Christi Janzen. She was a good mother and did the best that she could and will be very much missed by her family.
Martha was predeceased by her husband, James Perry Otis; her parents Johannes and Martha Hohmann; her siblings Elfriede Taube, Georg Hohmann, Hilde Werner, Hannelore Hohmann, Anneliese Hohmann.
Martha is survived by her siblings Heinrich Hohmann, Maria Regner Hohmann, Liesel Schuerkes Hohmann, Ilse Ebenkofler Hohmann; her children Christi Janzen, Colleen Grodhaus, Heidi Kimball, James Otis, Patrick Otis and Theresa Corbin; her grandchildren Holly Jepsen, Brianne Janzen, Joshua Corbin, Corey Corbin, Danielle Kimball, Nicholas Kimball, Anthony Osborn, Randall Osborn, Amber Otis, and Steven Otis; her great-grandchildren Nikko Nelson, Apria Jepsen and Emma Cox; and many nieces and nephews in Germany – Wolfgang, Ranier, Elke, Sandra, Brigitte, Joerg, Jutta, Rolf, Katia, Tina, Ingrid, Heidrum, Robert, Susanne, Heike, Gabi, Kathrin, and Thomas; also her cousins who still live in Oberellenbach, Germany – Anneliese Lies and her son Leni Scharmann.
