Mark W. McCallister, age 62, born on January 15, 1953 in Grand Junction, CO to Francis Xavier McCallister Jr. and Jean Bunnel passed away in his Aurora, CO home on Thursday, February 12, 2015 after a five year journey with Multiple Myeloma. He was married to Patricia A. Brown in 1973, and had two children he loved very much, Cheryl A. McCallister and Aaron W. McCallister. After the dissolution of the marriage, Mark and Patty remained good friends who always valued and honored each other and their continued relationship over the years. He was later briefly married to Mariel Oberling where the two shared in a supportive bond and inclusive loving relationship with each other's children from previous marriages.
Mark attended Holy Family Catholic School, Grand Junction High School, and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Business Administration - Finance, from Mesa State College. He worked as an Accountant for over 20 years, helping to reshape and financially organize several companies. Mark was viewed by many as the most honest and ethical of men and this innate characteristic automatically carried over into his field. Outside of work, Mark enjoyed bicycling, hiking, and working on his car, as well as fishing with his son Aaron, his nephew Andrew, and his brother Paul. Mark gave to the homeless, providing a couple dollars, a listening ear, and an open heart. He also gave to several charities. Mark had a quirky sense of humor, a deep love of God through devotion to his Catholic Faith, and an incredibly giving nature, often putting others before himself. In the last five years of his life, Mark was very involved in several cancer group organizations and charities. Through this time he developed several deep and lasting friendships with other individuals also walking a similar path in life. In his last days, as Mark reflected on his journey with cancer, he said, "This cancer was a gift; it brought me closer to God."
He is survived by his daughter Cheryl McCallister of Lafayette, CO, son Aaron McCallister and daughter-in-law and grand-daughter, Bailey McCallister & Collette McCallister of Bastalt, CO, his mother Jean Bunnell, brother and sister-in-law, Paul & Sheri McCallister of Centennial,CO, sister Theresa McCallister of Aurora, CO, sister and brother-in-law, Vanessa McCallister-Koches and Mike Koches of Aurora, CO, and nieces and nephews Josh Zamora, Abbey Zamora-James of Denver, CO, Nick McCallister of Greeley, CO, Natalie McCallister, and Andrew McCallister of Centennial, CO, and his beloved little yorkshier terrier, Milee McCallister.
Mark's family sends a special thank you to all those individuals who touched Mark's life, bringing him joy, friendship, healing, strength, support, laughter, and love.
Per Mark's request, a small family mass will be held at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Denver, CO.
