MARK RODNEY HARKMAN - 66 years old passed Sunday October 31st after a long battle with a failing Liver. Mark, and Debra Page his Wife of 34 years, had recently returned from a car trip to Minnesota where Mark was dealing with family matters in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Following this long trip, Mark had need for hospitalization and went to the Veteran's hospital, downtown Denver. Mark had received care there for many years, and was being actively treated for his liver issues. Unfortunately his condition rapidly deteriorated over a 4 day period. The failing liver, resulted in kidney issues and his passing away. Mark had many short but meaningful family visits made to his bedside during the few days prior to his death there at the VA hospital.
Mark was the son of Rodney Harkman who preceded him in death in 1988, his mother Mardell Harkman passed in 2015, also Mark's sister Rita Meehan had passed away in 2013. The Harkman family had moved to Colorado years ago, and Mark attended South High School in Denver. His mother Mardell, known to all as Mickey, relocated back to Minnesota where she spent her remaining years with her daughter Rita, before Rita's passing from cancer. Mark and Debra had a family centric life in the Denver area and their activities together with family, and friends were the main focus of their life together. Scott Seber, Debra's son grew up as Mark's step son with Mark spending a significant time of his adult life helping and supporting Debra and Scott and the family. Scott in turn has a son, Spencer Seber, who also grew up with Papa Mark and Grammy Debbe. Scott also has 3 other children, granddaughter Melanie Seber, and twin grandsons Justin and Brandon Seber. In Minnesota Mark is survived by his niece Tamala Rae Morken, and Mark's nephew Mark Jon Meehan.
Mark and Debra and the family have led a colorful and full life, with family usual family activities and challenges, but always with a strong bond together. Mark worked primarily as a General Contractor, and had many projects he did over his career. For fun and his real passion however, was for his Harley Davidson motorcycles, of which he had a few, and spent hours tinkering and going to rallies including around Colorado and Sturgis South Dakota. Weekend motorcycle friends had frequent around the town get- togethers, and kept them active with a group of Harley enthusiasts. Mark, Debra and family had a number of trips to Hawaii, where they enjoyed luaus and good fun on Oahu together. They and the family also spent time fishing, including a Birthday celebration for Mark on their annual camping trips up to the Miracle Mile on the North Platte River in Wyoming. There, they camped in their trailer, fished, and had many fun times as a family. Mark was a great "tinkerer" with engines and motor vehicles, and had a collection of cars and trucks and bikes, all somehow continuing to be worked on over the years by Mark.....who never seemed up to parting with his various vehicles! Another family activity was Pheasant hunting in the autumn, where mostly they focused their hunts in the Holyoke area in Eastern Colorado. Mark had a passion for the Colorado Mountains and some years ago he purchased property up in the Bailey area, where he has spent many years creating improvements and having a weekend "get-a-way" place from this hussle/bussle of the downtown Denver scene. Avid fireworks were evident at Fourth of July parties, Bronco football championships, and other reasons to get together and enjoy family fun.
Mark had a full and busy life, and did things "his way", he was particular in his many habits and thrifty, stretching a buck as far as it would go......and supporting his investments in homes, property, vehicles, and many family activities. Debra and Mark had a series of dogs. Labrador retrievers ruled their house, and Sidekick, Sofie, Buckwheat, Yogi, and currently Rocky all played an active role in the life of the family. Mark will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, and all those who over many years had the good fortune to be part of the life he and Debra had together..... Debra and the family extend their thanks to all the family members and friends who have made Mark's life full and interesting.
Mark was a Navy service veteran, from May 1969 to February 1973, and served time aboard the USS Kilauea providing off shore support during the Vietnam conflict. Mark had many good friends at the VA, and appropriately will be buried at Services on Tuesday November 15, 2016 at Fort Logan cemetery in Denver. Anyone attending should plan to be there around 10:30 am as the Service for Mark will start at 11 am but cars will be "staged" into the area at the cemetery for the 11:00 am service.
