Marilyn Sue (Minnick) Curtis was born August 27, 1933 and passed away on October 10, 2014 at her most recent home, Serenity House in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. At Serenity House she was cared for by many over the past three years. Survived by: her children Steven (Joan) Curtis of Michigan, Annette Meyer of Wyoming, Tonya (John) Moody of Ohio, Herbert B. (Elizabeth) Curtis III of Colorado; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Curtis of Washington, DC. At the time of Marilyn's passing there are 10 grandchildren: Dorsi, Bethany, Martha, Sarah, Phillip, Matthew, Jason, Matt, Levi, and Ashley; and 11 great grandchildren. She leaves behind many more family and friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Blaine Curtis; parents, George and Mary Minnick; sister Elma Hiebert; brothers Edward and Arnold; and son-in-law Rick Meyer.
Marilyn, born in Ray County, Missouri was the daughter of George Cosby Minnick and Mary Elizabeth Hogan. Her childhood was spent growing up on the family farm in Missouri alongside her sister and two brothers. During her high school years, at a mere five feet tall, she enjoyed playing point guard on her high school basketball team.
After high school, Marilyn attended college in Kansas and was trained in accounting. One summer while working at a Hartford Insurance Agency she was introduced to Herbert Blaine Curtis by his Uncle Levi. On April 3, 1954, Marilyn and Blaine were married. Blaine joined the U. S. Air Force to be an aviator and serve his country. Marilyn and Blaine soon began a family. With Blaine serving in the military, the family moved many times with Marilyn creating loving and comfortable homes in Texas, California, Nebraska, Alabama, Hawaii, Kansas, Michigan, and Colorado.
Marilyn had many interests in life that have been taken up by her children. These include gourmet cooking, master gardening, fishing, camping, and a love for the great outdoors. She was a volunteer leader with the Girl Scouts of America and enjoyed leading the girls in Klondike style winter camping. After raising her and Blaine's children, she was employed as a Tax Professional at H&R Block in Boulder Colorado.
In life, Marilyn's sparkling blue eyes, infectious smile and fearless pioneering spirit allowed her to develop many friendships. She will be greatly missed by all those that loved her and found her to be a friend.
Internment for Marilyn and Blaine will be held 9:30 am, Friday, October 17, 2014 at Pavilion B, Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or charity of your choice.
