Mariel Sue Hartman York, age 78, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ, in Lone Tree CO, on Thursday April 29, 2021. Throughout her adult life, she fought hard against Lupus, Sjogren’s, breast cancer, and numerous other autoimmune diseases. She mystified her doctors (and many of us) over the years with her immense will to live and the ability to always beat the odds.
Mariel “Sue” was born in Muskegon, MI on July 22, 1942. Throughout her life, she lived in Muskegon MI, Grand Rapids MI, Cincinnati OH, Chicago IL, St Louis MO, St Joseph MO, and finally settled in Lone Tree, CO. Although she worked various jobs throughout her lifetime, including running her husband’s material handling office, her most prestigious role was as a wife, Mom, Grandma, and Great Grammy. Sue loved to travel, she was a talented gardener, an extraordinary Christmas cookie baker, fearless Girl Scout leader, photographer, and she loved working on her genealogy with her cousins. She had close friendships with her cousins and from every place she lived – she never lost touch with any of them. She played a mean mahjong and cribbage, belonged to Daughters of the Revolution, Red Hats, the Department 56 Club, and Focus Camera Club. Sue made Christmas a magical holiday for her family with her love of Dept 56 villages and her beautiful decorations that transformed her home. She loved to study the Bible and immerse herself in its stories and lessons.
Survivors include her husband Dick (Lone Tree CO), her daughter Lori (Ben), son Rick (Laurey), and daughter Peggy (Paul); her grandkids Nikki (Tyler), Jeff, Jenna, Nathan, Chris, Charles, and Daniel; and her great-grandkids Blakely and Beckett; her nieces and nephew Kelly, Tracey, and Kevin. She was preceded in death by her parents Walt and Nina Hartman, and her sister Meredith (Kim).
