With great sadness we announce the passing of Marian Louise (Hammons) Farlow on February 18, 2015 at her residence in Denver, Co. Marian was born in St. Louis, MO on April 20, 1925 to Thomas Joel and Lola Mae (Jones) Hammons. The family later moved to Dale, IL where Marian grew up and attended school. She graduated from McLeansboro Township High School (MTHS) in 1942 and later attended business college in Champaign, IL. In addition to assisting with the family hardware business, Marian worked in the MTHS office and later as bookkeeper and secretary of the school board for the Hamilton County School District.
Marian married Irl Melvin Farlow, also an MTHS graduate, on January 25, 1944 and they subsequently had two children, Irl Ronald and Lea Ann. The couple resided in McLeansboro until after Mel's death in 1979. Following her retirement from the school district Marian moved to be with her sister, Virginia who was also widowed. "The sisters" as they were affectionately known, enjoyed life together for over 25 years in Alexandria, LA; Diamondhead, MS; and Duncanville, TX. As her heath began declining, Marian moved to the Denver area in March of 2013, to be near her daughter, where she remained until her death.
Marian is survived by her son, Irl Ronald Farlow (Marilyn) of Marco Island, FL, her daughter, Lea Ann Farlow Slizeski (John), of Golden, CO, her grandson, Kyle Anthony Farlow of Kirkland WA and her sister Virginia Lee Hammons Smith Dial (Emery), of Godfrey, IL. Her brother Thomas Joel Hammons, Jr. preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 26, 2015 in McLeansboro. Contributions may be made in her memory to the McLeansboro First United Methodist Church, where Marian was a long time member, or to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, a program that was dear to her heart.
