Maria (Hauch) Lebherz was born in Yugoslavia on February 26, 1933 and went home to meet her Lord and Savior on May 18, 2020, peacefully passing away in her sleep.
Maria was born to Maria and David Hauch in Nova Pasova, Yugoslavia. Toward the end of WWII, she and her family fled the communist Partisans and made their way to Germany. A chance meeting a few years later between her mother and a young man from their former village led to her marrying William Lebherz on September 16, 1951, a love story that lasted a happy 66 years.
The young couple lived in Germany, welcoming a daughter, Dorothea in 1954. They followed Maria's parents' lead and immigrated to America in 1955, arriving in New Jersey, where they had been sponsored by their church. They welcomed another daughter, Maria in 1957.
A vacation to Colorado to visit family led them to move to Denver, where Bill started his own business, Willy's Furniture Shop, and Maria was his secretary and bookkeeper. Her delightful accent enchanted customers! They welcomed their third child, William David in 1966.
Maria became a leader in the Women's Ministry at their church and together she and Bill held many Bible studies in their home. They also hosted many wonderful dinners with family and friends, sought after because of Maria's amazing cooking! She was a lovely hostess, welcoming many last-minute guests with warmth and grace. Her love of the Lord and her family were the cornerstones of her life.
Dementia robbed her of her memories during the last years of her life, but never took her loving spirit and the delight she took in her family. Loved by all who knew her, she will be missed, but is now singing duets with her husband in heaven!
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Lebherz. She is survived by their 3 children, Dot (Robert) Sandhaus, Maria (Lon) Graham, and William Jr (Agustin Perez). Grandchildren Kaitlin (Johnny) Rosanova, Amanda (Tucker) Maroney, Aubrey (Chris) Ebbs and Garrett Sandhaus will dearly miss their loving grandmother, as well as her 4 great-grandchildren, Rylan, Dax, Mia Maroney, and Reese Ebbs. She is also survived by her brother, Gary (Linda) Hauch of Ottawa, Canada and numerous nieces and nephews.
