Lieselotte Hartel, was born in Nurnberg, Germany as Lieselotte Sperber, on September 1924.
Her parents were Gretel and Johann Sperber. Lieselotte had a brother, who died as a young child, and a sister, Marie.
Her parents owned a beauty- and barbershop. She worked as an apprentice. But once she was a beautician, she worked for the competition. She wanted to be independent and being taken serious.
When she was 18 she met and married Hermann Krug. He was sent to WW II and died in 1945. At 21, she was
a war widow with a toddler, Hermann. Hermann also died as a young man in a diving accident.
In 1949, Lieselotte met Gunter Hartel and they married in 1950. They raised five beautiful children; they had four children together, Karola, Doris, Gunter and Stephen, and Gunter had a son from a previous relationship, Lutz. In 1974 with the support of Lutz and his family, Gunter and Lieselotte immigrated to Indian Hills, Colorado. She loved living in the United States, evidenced by the many american flags (pins! pictures!) she had.
Lieselotte was a happy, positive and kind person. She had a zest for life and loved when her sons took her for motorcycle ride, or dancing at the October Fest. She positively lit up when she was around her grandchildren and she was very proud to tell you all about their accomplishments. She took care of Tommy, and Lacie, in her little Lakewood House in the years leading up to school - she was so happy being with them.
Lieselotte traveled extensively, visiting her son in Australia, her daughter in Oregon and making a trip to Virginia with
Lutz to visit her sons, Hermann's grave.
Her favorite past time was knitting. Every one of her grand- and great grandchildren has a sweater, hat or dress from her.
She will be greatly missed by her extensive family and friends.
