Lisa Michelle Gaines (1973–2024) 

Lisa Gaines, age 50, passed away peacefully in Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN, on March 18, 2024. 

Lisa was born on June 27, 1973, and was raised in Hermitage, TN, by parents Virginia Mayo (née Perry) and Ronald Mayo. Lisa grew up and attended school in the greater Nashville area, and it was there that Lisa forged friendships and connections that would last a lifetime. 

Throughout her life, Lisa struggled with illnesses both physical and mental. Her adult life was marked by tireless self-advocacy for her medical wellbeing, trying to seek treatments, therapies, and habits that would enable her to more fully enjoy and appreciate the world and the people around her. Through this fight, Lisa strived to bring light and joy to those around her as a mother, wife, daughter, sister, carer, and friend. She was a passionate writer, an avid reader, and a loyal supporter and cheerleader to the people around her. 

Lisa was preceded in death by her sister, Melissa Sevier, and grandparents George Allen Self and Jewell Helen Self. Survivors include mother Virginia Mayo, father Ronald Mayo, daughter Gara Gaines, ex-husband Gary Gaines, biological father Bobby Joe Self, brother-in-law Jackie Sevier, and many much-beloved friends. 

A celebration of life for Lisa will be held at the Mayo residence (417 Rockwood Drive, Hermitage, TN) on Saturday, March 30, from 2-4pm. We invite you to come as you are and join us to share your memories.
