Linda Sue Dullard, daughter of Maxine and William Carter, was born on April 3, 1948 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She lived most of her childhood with her parents and four siblings in Marathon, Iowa. She worked at her family's restaurant in Marathon while growing up and excelled in high school basketball. Linda and her family later moved to Des Moines where she graduated from East High School.
Linda married Danny Sharp shortly after graduation and worked for Dubinsky Theaters, a job she really loved. They briefly lived in Boston, MA while Danny was in the Navy, before moving back to Iowa and settling in Des Moines and having their two children, Stephanie and Steven. Linda was the ‘rock' of the family and her house was always the hub for birthday and holiday gatherings. After her divorce from Danny, she became a single working parent and joined Lutheran Hospital in their accounts payable office. Linda worked very tirelessly and instilled a great work ethic in her children. She provided everything for them and sacrificed her own time to get them to all their sports and activities, never missing a game, concert or recital. Linda enjoyed many years working at the hospital and made many close friendships that became life-long; she ultimately retired from Iowa Health Systems.
Shortly after her divorce from Danny, she met Richard (Dick) Dullard and together with her children they enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, riding bikes, and boating on Saylorville Lake. After her children graduated and started their own lives, Linda married Dick in 2000 and moved to Thornton, Colorado where she spent the remainder of her life. Linda and Dick loved exploring the beautiful nature Colorado had to offer, as well as many of the surrounding states. They were avid movie goers and thrift shoppers, and loved trying new restaurants and playing games and cards with friends and family. Linda also enjoyed frequent trips back to Des Moines to visit her children, grandchildren, siblings and many of her long-time friends.
Linda also enjoyed many other hobbies throughout her life. She loved to read and quilt, and collected antiques of all kinds, including furniture she could refurbish and refinish. She also had a passion for finding and collecting seashells from various places, but her favorite was Sanibel Island, FL. She visited there many times with her family and friends.
Linda died peacefully in her sleep the morning of November 9, 2020 in her home in Thornton, Colorado, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She was 72 years old. Linda is preceded in death by her parents William and Maxine Carter, her aunt Margaret and uncle Worthy Harvey, her aunt Pat Carter and more recently her stepdaughter in-law Kim Chavez.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Dick Dullard; stepson Rick Dullard of Cedar Rapids, daughter Stephanie Schreiber (Matthew) of Norwalk, son Steven Sharp (Lisa) of Ankeny. Four siblings, William Carter (Wanda) of Des Moines, Sandra Sieve of Des Moines, Cindy Smith (Ron) of Grinnell and Marilyn Farley (James) of Urbandale. She also had 5 grandchildren that were the center of her world. Amber, Raemi, Hudson, Hailey and Taylor. In addition, she had many nieces and nephews that were a big part of her life.
A celebration of life will be held in the Des Moines area at a date yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Food Bank of Iowa or Colorado.
