Leslie David Hogan Jr (Dave), 65, of Golden, Colorado, peacefully passed away July 17, 2022. Dave was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer, a glioblastoma, on December 29, 2020 and fought this terrible disease for nearly 19 months. Dave was born on December 17, 1956 in Freeport, Texas.

Dave met Renea Winfrey on April 16, 1981 in Denver, Colorado. He proposed to Renea on April 16, 1982 and they were married on April 16, 1983. Consequently, if either of them forgot their anniversary, he or she would be in big trouble!! Fortunately that never happened.

Dave served for his country in the Air Force prior to meeting his wife. He held numerous jobs throughout his lifetime as he was the jack of all trades. Over the last few years Dave was a chauffeur for limousine companies which he truly loved. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and loved meeting new people.
Dave loved music, especially  bluegrass, oldies and country, and played the guitar and harmonica. He wholeheartedly tried to learn how to play the banjo but that did not go as well as he had hoped. Unfortunately his wife and son would always laugh when he tried to practice because he would play the same notes every time!! Bless his heart for trying. Eventually he realized that it was harder than he anticipated. He also enjoyed hunting, especially archery, camping, fishing, traveling, playing cards and games, classic cars and spending time with his family and friends. He loved animals and will miss his dog Lola. Dave was a member of the Elks and enjoyed playing pool on their league every Thursday night. He was a good pool player. He established some great friendships within that group and still asked to go even when he was no longer physically able. Dave's sense of humor and sarcastic wit were his strong points and he always had a new joke in his back pocket to tell his family and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Loy Winfrey. He is survived by his loving wife, Renea, son Ben, daughter-in-law Jordan, father-in-law Jim Winfrey, brother-in-law Scott Winfrey and his wife Cherie, nieces Ashley Ertz and her husband Jeremy and Caitlin Kitson, nephew Colin Kitson and great nieces Rylee and Jordyn.

Dave desired cremation and his arrangements were provided by Cremate Simply in Centennial, Colorado. A memorial service and burial of his ashes will be held at Fort Logan cemetery at 4400 W Kenyon Ave in Denver, Colorado on Monday August 22, 2022 at 10am. A reception will follow the service at Monaghan's Bar & Grill close to the cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
