Larry Gene Faires, age 79 of Englewood, Colorado passed away on January 29, 2022. He was born January 17, 1943; he was the son of Fern McAfee and Lynn Edward Faires. He was the only son of their six children, his sisters often referred to him as the thorn among the roses.
Larry graduated from Englewood High School in 1961. He worked for a short time at Martin Marietta, then joined the Air Force. He served his country from 1964-1968. Larry worked for years in construction doing new builds and remodeling. He joined the Englewood school district as a custodian and worked there unit he retired.
On November 8, 1968, he was united in marriage to Joyce Gilling, they were blessed with a daughter Shannon Faires, a son Shawn (Lori) Faires, grandson Jake Romo, granddaughter Jerrica Faires and a great grandson Barrett Romo.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Barbara Crecelius. He is survived by his sisters, Betty (Harold) Allen, Sandy (Ed) Allen, Marsha (Bill) Mosteller, Dee Caudill and Numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry will be remembered for his love of life, his strong faith, his great sense of humor, his laughter and his great ability to tell stories. His sisters will remember his as “speed” a nickname given to him at an early age because he was always on the go and in a hurry.
The most important thing in Larry’s life was his faith in God and his family, he was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Larry had many close friends over the years, and he cherished those friendships. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Larry had many interests, he was an avid reader, loved the rodeo and anything western. He was a master knife maker. He enjoyed helping Shannon and Shawn with their home projects.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:00am on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Denver First Church of the Nazarene, 3800 East Hampden Ave., Englewood, CO. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 West Kenyon Ave., at 2:00pm.
In Lieu of flowers those who wish to remember Larry in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Hope in the Night Ministries, (hopeinthenight.com) or International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. The Family wishes to thank you for your many kindnesses shown them.
