Kyle Stephen Rini

Kyle Stephen Rini, beloved son, brother, colleague and friend, passed from this world on Sunday, September 12, 2021.

Born March 21, 1996 as the youngest of three children, Kyle grew up in the small, sleepy town of Monument, Colorado, later moving to the northern edge of Colorado Springs where he attended Discovery Canyon High School. He excelled in school, and achieved high honors in the state Geography Bee. A creative storyteller, he spent time in the school AV club and made short films with friends.

Kyle attended the University of Colorado Boulder, where he majored in Journalism and Political Science. He worked for the College of Media, Communication, and Information (CMCI) for all four years, and was also a journalist for  the CU Independent, covering many of the university’s sports teams. A member of the Phi Sigma Pi honors fraternity, he graduated with honors in May 2018. He chose to go into marketing after graduating, and had most recently worked as a Content Marketing Specialist/Copywriter at Pax8.

A true Colorado native, Kyle loved the outdoors and found peace in the trees and mountains. An avid Broncos and Nuggets fan, he could frequently be found at games with family and friends. He loved to camp, hike, and snowboard with friends, and the walls of his room were covered in national park posters.

Known for his quick, dry, wit, Kyle was always ready with a thoughtful observation or remark. Fiercely intelligent, he loved to debate, on any subject, but was also deeply sensitive and empathetic, with a strong sense of right and wrong. He was kind, funny, sarcastic, and sensitive, and cared deeply for the people around him. Those who knew him well will easily recall his wry grin and knowing chuckle.

From a childhood filled with road trips and travel, to college years and beyond packed with concerts and sports games, camping trips and nights out, a close social circle of tight knit friends and a burgeoning successful career, it seemed like he was determined to live life to its fullest, with every day brighter and better than the last. Unfortunately, as with so many others, the pandemic lockdown took a harsh toll on him. Abruptly alone and isolated from the life he knew, he began to withdraw and suffered from severe depersonalization, derealization, and depression. Ultimately, it became too much to bear and he chose to end his own life. His last messages to friends and family were ones of love and gratitude, and a request to remember him fondly.

Kyle is survived by his mother Kari Minton Bennett, father Kenneth Rini, sisters Kelsey and Katelyn, and extended family.

A celebration of life will be held at Hearth House in Monument, CO on Monday September 27th from 2-4pm.
