Kurtis Wright Pierpont, beloved husband, father, brother, son, uncle, colleague, friend and mentor to many, passed away unexpectedly and prematurely on Friday February 18th, 2022, in his home in Centennial Colorado at the age of 65.
Born August 1,1956, in Longmont Colorado, son of the late Francis and Susan (Wright) Pierpont. Kurt attended Longs Peak Junior High School where his pole vaulting record still stands. He graduated from Longmont High School, Class of 1974. He received his B.S. in psychology from Metropolitan State College in Denver in 1978.
He began his career in Criminal Justice in 1979. First for Lane County Jail in Eugene, Oregon where he met his future bride Ms. Helena Sawicki, also in Criminal Justice. The two often joked that they “met in jail.” Next, he was an Alcohol & Drug Evaluator in Jefferson County and a State Probation Officer in Arapahoe County. Kurt was a Federal Probation and Parole Officer for 20 years and ended his career in JeffCo Pre-Trial Services. Kurt was passionate about his career choice and served faithfully and successfully while he listened, counseled, and mentored many in need from dark scenarios, never losing his wry sense of humor and his shy smile. He willingly gave his words of wisdom to all who knew him.
Kurt was an avid golfer from a tender young age, often frequenting Sunset Golf Course and Fox Hill CC in Longmont. Later he joined Littleton Men’s Golf Club and South Suburban Senior Golf Club, where he played as often as weather allowed. In the off-season, in his younger days, the Rocky Mountains provided an exhilarating escape for Kurt’s love of skiing.
When not at work or play Kurt could be found (and heard) pounding on his drums, which he played from childhood to the end. First at Longmont High School, drumming with the Rhythm Aires Stage Band and later with James Thornbury Band in Oregon; Shelvis and the Roustabouts, and for over 20 years with Indigo Atlas both in Denver. His five drum sets ensured the Pierpont home was always pulsating!
Kurt’s artistic touch had him crafting in leather, woodworking, and photography. Often producing professionally finished pieces, he took joy from creating with his hands, heart, and eyes.
Kurtis Wright Pierpont is survived by his partner and wife of 40 years Helena Sawicki (Pierpont), their sons Dylan Edmund, Austin Kurtis, and Evan Francis, his sister Lucinda Pierpont and her son Tyson Yee, his late sister Melanie Pierpont and her sons Spencer and Taylor Bushnell, his brother Scott Pierpont, his wife Jill Rasmussen (Pierpont) and his sons Noah and Simon Pierpont, sisters & brothers-in-law Bari and Miles Johnson, Eva and Mark Wierzbinski, and niece Selena Peters, his American Field Service exchange student brother Wirachai Phrompechrut from Bangkok, Thailand. And Kurt’s beloved dog Kilo, who misses him dearly!
Kurt will be remembered as a kind, generous, gentle soul. But the “beat goes on”, his beat, in all the hearts and minds of those who knew, respected, and loved Kurtis Wright Pierpont.
