Kristen was born in Chestnut Hill Hospital to Louise "Clay"ton Ratcliffe (nee Esterhai) and William A. Ratcliffe. Kristen was the older of two sisters.
Kristen graduated from Downingtown High School in 1995. While attending Downingtown High School, Kristen was in the choir, on the swim team, President of the Student Council and served on the Downingtown Area School Board. Following graduation, Kristen attended and graduated from Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva, New York in 1999. She received a Bachelor of Art's degree in English Literature, Religion with a minor in film.
Kristen worked for a bank for eighteen months before realizing she wanted to help and work with children in Special Education. She got a position as a teacher's aide in Special Education in the Methacton School District while working towards her Master's degree. She graduated from Penn State University with a Masters in Special Education in 2004 and worked in the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District as a Special Education teacher in Conestoga High School.
In 2005, Kristen moved to Colorado to be with her now husband, Philip. She worked as a Special Education teacher at Arapahoe High School and became Department Chair prior to her diagnosis. Kristen loved her students and nothing was too much trouble given they wanted to learn.
Kristen married Philip Brian Robley on June 27, 2009 at Red Rocks in a small ceremony witnessed by friends and family. Kristen and Phil were not only husband and wife, but also best friends. Nothing pleased them more than spending all their "free" time together. Phil has been a husband, friend and caregiver to Kristen since her original diagnosis and through eight brain surgeries. Together they enjoyed "road trips", hiking, biking, camping and traveling. Kristen enjoyed reading, music, playing with their dogs, movies and the company of her friends.
After Kristen's initial surgery, she was so grateful for the care provided by the doctors, nurses and support employees, she began volunteering at Parker Adventist Hospital in the Critical Care Unit and other areas. Kristen found great joy and several good friends while volunteering at Parker Adventist.
Kristen was loving, a loyal and true friend, had a quick wit and a fabulous sense of humor, would help anyone and adored all her dogs.
Kristen will be missed by her loving husband, Philip B. Robley; her mother, Louise C. E. Ratcliffe; her father, William A. Ratcliffe; her sister, Perry E. Munday (Joshua); her niece, Harper R. Mundy; her aunts and uncle; as well as many cousins. All are comforted that she is no longer suffering from the ravages of her anaplastic astrocytoma.
Remembrances in lieu of flowers should be made to Parker Adventist Hospital or Agape Hospice. As of this time, no services is planned.
