Kenneth Mcbride

Kenneth Wayne McBride, 66, of Aurora, Colorado, went to be with his Lord Saturday, July 25, 2020 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully with Ryan and Elise at his side praying and singing hymns to him. He was born March 10, 1954 to Elsie L. Burkett in Denver, Colorado. He was the youngest of 3 brothers and is survived by brother Michael P. McBride (Jill Cooper) of Williamsburg, Virginia; brother John R. McBride (Lynette) of Canon City, Colorado; niece Heather Ainsworth (Joshua) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nephew Ryan McBride (Elise) of Canon City, Colorado; great nephews Lucas Ainsworth, Ethan Ainsworth, Logan Ainsworth, and Colten Ainsworth of Colorado Springs, Colorado; great nephews Noah McBride and Elijah McBride and great niece McKinley McBride of Canon City, Colorado; cousin Bill Weber (Kathy) of Greeley, Colorado; cousin Cheryl Adams of Las Vegas, Nevada; cousin Tom Weber (Kay) of Greeley, Colorado; cousin Nancy Pfeif of Greeley, Colorado; and numerous extended family and friends who will greatly miss him.

Ken was preceded in death by his mother Elsie L. Burkett and stepdad Guye H. Burkett of Denver, Colorado; aunt Emma Davison (Sid) of Yuma, Arizona; uncle Fred Weber (Nadine) of Edgewater, Colorado; aunt Mary Hegler (John) of Denver, Colorado; uncle Dave Weber (Lucille) of Denver, Colorado; and uncle Albert Weber (Gloria) of Greeley, Colorado.

Ken graduated from South High School in 1972, and later earned his associate degree with honors. He worked at The Rocky Mountain News/Denver Post for 37 years where he was a computer technician. After that he worked for Denver Public Schools at Cory Elementary School as a custodian until he retired a year ago. Warm remembrances by his colleagues and the kids at Cory attest to the joy he brought to all.

Ken was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan, and also loved the Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets, and Colorado Avalanche. He attended as many games as he possibly could, but mostly went to Rockies games with his mother, his brothers, and cousin Bill. He LOVED sports!

Ken remained a bachelor his whole life and was devoted to his family and his Lord. He enjoyed riding his bike, spending time at Cherry Creek Reservoir (which he called the beach), flipping burgers in his backyard for family and friends, and liked having out of town family members stay at his house when they were in Denver. With his adventurous spirit he would always say yes to any suggestion from his friends or family for an outing! From the many cruises he went on with his mother, to the Renaissance Festival, to the many opening day Rockies games, he was the lynchpin for pulling the family together. Kiki, as Heather and Ryan and their children called him, brought joy and laughter to any get-together.

He also had a life long friend he loved to spend time with....Ken and Ron McCulley met in 9th grade and became close friends. Ken loved to spend time with Ron and his wife Annette and daughters Chelle Mankins and Becca Fontana.

He was the best brother anyone could ever have and John and Mike treasured their time with him. Ken will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. His ashes will be spread along the Highline Canal bike trail where he loved to ride.
