Katherine Hitson

Katherine (Weisbrod) Hitson, 30, passed from this life on October 12, 2018. She died in Santa Fe, NM after battling cancer for nearly three years. Katie was born in Dallas, Texas on April 30, 1988 and moved with her parents to Los Alamos, NM, in 1992. She graduated from Los Alamos High School in 2006. From childhood into adulthood, Katie was involved in ballet, gymnastics, Girl Scouts, high school band, Santa Fe Youth Symphony and Los Alamos Community Winds as well as band at NMSU. Katie loved children and they loved her. She worked as a teaching assistant in the Los Alamos and Santa Fe schools.  Katie developed an avid interest in geology from her Uncle Greg and in astronomy from her Grandpa Weisbrod. Her treatment at the Santa Fe Regional Cancer Center rekindled her artistic personality which was expressed in sketches, paintings and numerous art projects. She leaves behind her husband, Andrew, Katie's parents Kirk and Betsy Weisbrod, grandmother Betty Ann Weisbrod, birthmother Amanda Peters and her family, Andrew's mother (Helen) and sister (Samantha),  and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Her joyful, effervescent spirit and compassion for others will be missed by her family as well as in the lives of the many people she touched. Contributions in her memory may be given to the charity of your choice, the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico or Presbyterian Medical Services that provided such wonderful care. A celebration of Katie's life will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos in the near future.
