In loving memory
Katharine Gwendolyn Hornaday, born in San Antonio, Texas, transitioned peacefully on August 8, 2019 in Denver, Colorado. Beloved wife and partner to Cliford A. Birchman, who preceded her in death on December 5, 2018. She was predeceased by her parents: Margaret Mitchell and Terry A. Hornaday, Sr., her brother, Terry A Hornaday, Jr. and her nephew Terry A. Hornaday III.
Katharine graduated from St. Mary's Hall of San Antonio and attended Texas Western University and Southern California University. She was a Duchess of the Order of the Alamo in Fiesta and presented as a Debutante of the German Club of San Antonio.
An elegant woman of substance and grace, Kay, as she was fondly known, was the International Director at CAS, an Interpublic Group Company in NYC. She spent the last 30 years with her companion Clif traveling around the world while living in Denver, Colorado.
"Kay" is survived by her niece and goddaughter Virginia “Ginger" Hornaday of Denver & Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grand nieces and nephews Rachel Hornaday of Brooklyn, NY, Leah Hornaday (Darren) of Bellingham, WA, Ben Hornaday (Kristi) and Seth Hornaday of Atlanta, GA. a great niece Lola, cousins Charles (Beth) and Stewart (Becky) Williams, Katharine Williams Orgain (Ben), Steven Conder (Anne) and their families.
Katharine's passing was announced at St John's Cathedral in Denver on August 18, 2019, followed by brunch at BRIOS Cherry Creek attended by her Denver friends and loved ones.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday October 18, 2019 at 10:00 am at St Mark’s Episcopal Church 315 East Pecan San Antonio, TX 78025 followed by a reception on the church grounds and a lunch at La Fonda on Main for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St Mary's Hall, San Antonio, Texas in Katharine Hornaday's memory.
