Our beautiful, complicated, whip smart Katharine took her leave of this world Sunday November 8, 2020, a little before 5pm. The Three Sisters Mountain range ablaze, as the sun set and her exuberant spirit made its way toward her next great adventure. This is how our treasured Grandmother taught us to think of about the experience of death.
Katharine’s deep love of language, philosophy and learning itself made her a much revered and beloved Tutor at Saint John’s College here in Santa Fe from the early 1980s through mid 2000s.
She attended undergraduate school at UNM, received her Bachelor’s degree from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley California; and her PhD in Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma.
Her dedication to teaching had only rival, her devotion to her animals; all animals; but in particular Midnight, Mica, Twyla Star, Sophie and Lady Gaga.
While our hearts are breaking together, we are equally relieved she free of pain and all limitations of this world; and uplifted by knowing her extraordinary spirit is riding her beloved horse Shadow toward the glorious place our souls all return to.
A lifelong accomplished Equestrian, Katharine was able to tame the most spirited stallion and teach even the smallest trail pony the elegant, complex art of Dressage, often described as “the highest expression of horse training”.
Katharine is survived by her devoted husband Don Boaz, her true love only for all of Eternity; AMH.
Katharine is also survived by her two sisters Esther M. Weber and Anne Davis Mulford; and her brother Edwin H. Mulford lll. The four siblings shared a unique, unbreakable bond that transcends time, distance and death. Katharine was pre-deceased by both parents. Her mother, Esther S. Mulford was a local Santa Fe Entrepreneur from the early 1960s through her death in 1989; and her father Dr. Edwin H. Mulford ll of Darien, Connecticut.
She also leaves behind many other family members who she loved fiercely; countless dear friends, students, therapy clients (a second career she mastered after retiring from teaching), and colleagues. Each one of these lives were changed forever by her beautiful mind and her magnificent spirit.
In lieu of flowers, Katharine would be honored if instead you donated to a cause that is near and dear to your heart.
