Karen Knirsch

March 5, 1953 — January 19, 2021

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Karen Frances Knirsch, age 67, in the presence of family at University of Colorado Hospital Anschutz . In spite of health issues for many years, Karen was brave and never complained.

Born in Jersey City, Karen grew up in West New York, New Jersey. She received her B.A. at Oberlin College and taught Science in Cleveland before attending school in South Dakota and receiving her Master of Science in Geology.  Karen worked for several environmental companies in California and then in Denver where she received her MBA, and resided for many years. Eventually she established her own consulting company.  In addition to her busy consulting schedule, she found time for two “part-time” jobs. Karen worked hard to qualify for H&R Block, and became a master Tax Advisor, where she was employed for 20 years. She loved baseball and enjoyed working at Coors Field for many years as well.

Karen was a person with many interests including music, art, and theatre. Karen loved the great outdoors: skiing, hiking, and camping in Colorado, and travelling world-wide, often sharing adventures with family and friends. Karen was generous and caring, supporting many charities, including Denver Animal Shelter,www.DAS.org; Doctors Without Borders, doctorswithoutborders.org; and the Sierra Club.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be given to one of the above charities or to a charity of choice in Karen's name.

She is survived by sister Susan Claflin and husband David, and cousin John R Harlin, Jr.  Karen will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Karen will be cremated according to her wishes. No service scheduled at this time due to Covid-19.
