Karen Collins

January 19, 1951 — January 14, 2017

Karen Louise Stroud Collins was born in Santa Barbara, California, on January 19, 1951, and died suddenly at home in Denver, Colorado, on January 14, 2017. She is survived by her six children: Jared (Rebecca), Christine (Chris), Laura (J.), Jack (Adrian), John (Marilyn), and Jeanette; 15 grandchildren; sisters Susy and Wendy; and her beloved cat, Peanut. The greatest joy of Karen's life was undoubtedly her family, and she also found great happiness in her local ward at the Mormon church, puzzles, essential oils, broaches, anything sparkly, her scriptures, and especially, Chocolate (preferably See's).

An accomplished musician who could play the piano, organ, and cello, lead a choir, and sing perfect alto, Karen loved sharing her ample talents with others. A caring, loving, generous person at heart, Karen always had a kind word for whomever's path she crossed, and could often be found giving a ride to someone, delivering a meal to a person in need, or playing board games with elderly members of her church congregation. Karen insisted on 'front' hugs, and she gave some of the best hugs this side of the Rockies.

Karen was silly and mischievous, and enjoyed playing jokes and pranks on her children and grandchildren. She loved to laugh, and was an attentive conversationalist. Naturally curious, Karen asked many questions and delighted in learning new things. Karen went out of her way to make others feel noticed; she prided herself on remembering names as she greeted everyone she saw, making a point to address them in their native tongue (she was proud of in how many languages she could say, 'Hello, how are you?'). Karen had special 'grandma' days with individual grandchildren then sent them a personalized book with pictures commemorating the experience, she had lists and reminders of people's birthdays and sent cards or small gifts to the delight of the recipients, and she was quick with an encouraging word or compliment which would make a person's day.

Karen was exceptionally privileged to have worked for the Iseley family for over a decade before her passing. She adored taking care of their household, family, and animals as she would her own. Karen's family would like to extend their immense gratitude to the Iseley family for the extraordinary way they looked after Karen and took her into their loving family as one of their own. Their graceful generosity and kindness knows no bounds.

Karen Collins's unexpected departure from her life on Earth has left an enormous void in the hearts and lives of those who were lucky enough to have been touched by her presence which radiated pure love. The best way her spirit can live on would be for us all to take her mantra of 'Love One Another' into consideration into our daily lives. By our thoughts, words, and actions, we can all spread unconditional love in her memory.

A memorial service celebrating Karen's life was held on her 66th birthday, January 19, 2017, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In lieu of gifts or donations, Karen's family asks that you Love One Another, Help One Another, and Serve One Another.
