Joseph Woods

March 5, 1943 — January 15, 2020

Joseph Edward Woods, known to most as Joe, was a man of depth, curiosity, and humor. Born on the outskirts of Atlantic City, New Jersey, he spent the majority of his life in New York City, before finally settling in Boulder, Colorado. It was there that he embarked on a lifelong journey of self-discovery and exploration.

Joe was an intellect and poet, using the written word to express the thoughts and emotions that swirled within him. His days were filled with reading books on spirituality and immersing himself in the biographies of those who fascinated him. He found solace in his own company, preferring the quietude of his thoughts to the noise of the external world. Only a select few were allowed into his inner sanctum, for he believed in surrounding himself with like-minded souls who shared his loyalty and compassion. He also had a great love for music and film, amassing a collection of hundreds of albums, CDs, and DVDs.

A seeker of deeper meaning and greater truths, Joe dedicated his life to understanding his purpose in the grand scheme of things. He often retreated into solitude, using isolation and physical activity such as hours-long bike rides as a means to connect with his inner self and unravel the mysteries of existence. With his analytical mind and keen intuition, he viewed the world through a unique lens, always questioning and searching.

But it was the untimely loss of his beloved daughter, Susan, that deepened Joe's connection to the spiritual realm. Susan and her husband's sudden passing at the young age of 24 left a profound void in his heart. Joe yearned for a reunion with his daughter, desperately hoping for a glimpse of her in the afterlife. In a moment of vulnerability, he confided in his oldest daughter, Sarah, that for the first time in his life he desperately wanted to believe there was life after death. His love for both Sarah and Susan knew no bounds. Joe remained dedicated to his family despite the interference of his wife, who regardless of her cruel ways, he also was deeply devoted to. Unfortunately, his wife's abusive nature prevented any meaningful relationship between Joe and Sarah in his final years, stealing precious time from them.

Joe had little patience for superficiality and material possessions. He held himself to high standards and could be critical of those who did not share his values. He sought genuine connections, craving authenticity in a world that often felt disconnected.

Joseph Edward Woods, a man of depth and introspection, left an indelible mark on the few friends he left behind and on his loving daughter, Sarah. His insatiable thirst for knowledge, unwavering loyalty, and profound love for his family will forever be remembered. As he embarked on his final journey, Joe left behind a legacy of seeking, questioning, and an unwavering desire for connection and laughter.
