Joseph Pergola

November 18, 1949 — March 15, 2019

JOSEPH PETER PERGOLA, born November 18, 1949 and ascended in to heaven on March 15, 2019.

Husband of J'Laine Pergola; father of Joseph A. Pergola (Margo), Anthony D. Pergola (Jenny), Gina K. Walter (Jeff); step-father of Chere' Lundberg (Michael) and Robert Kelsey; brother of Anna M. Pergola; cousin of Pat Mariano. Also survived by ten loving grandchildren.

Joe grew up in northwest Denver and attended Regis High School and Regis College. Together with his wife, he owned and operated Vinnola's Italian Market for over 17 years, regularly receiving many "Best Of" awards from Colorado media recognizing great food and service. Long-time customers became like family, and it was this interaction that he missed most of all upon retirement.

Music played an important role in Joe's life. When he was a young man he learned to play the accordion. He then was self-taught on piano and guitar. He is fondly remembered for the joy and laughter he brought to gatherings with family and friends as he broke out in song é la Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Elvis and The Beatles. And we'll never forget his show-stopping rendition of "Lady of Spain."

Joe remained a kid at heart, with a boisterous laugh that preceded him in the room. His granddaughter, Capriana, recognized this pure sense of joy and warmth. At a very early age she created a new and most appropriate name for him, "Happy." May the happiness and music he brought to this life fill our hearts forever.

A mass celebrating Joe's life is planned for Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 10:30am, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 3549 Navajo Street, Denver, Colorado. A reception will immediately follow at Sons of Italy Lodge, 5925 W. 32nd Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. A private burial is planned for a later date.

And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me. Shine on ‘til tomorrow. Let it be.
