Joseph Devine

Joseph Robert Devine departed this life on January 5, 2015, in Denver, Colorado at the age of 79. Joe - known as "Sonny" by family members and close friends - is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elouise; sons James Robert (Kim), Kevin Robert (Tawna); daughter Teresa; two grandchildren, Jamari and Jamal; cousins Henry (Sylvia) Williams, Nora "Sister" Williams, Chuck Edward Williams, Allen Williams and Nathaniel "Joe" Williams; nephew Matthew (Terri Jo) Newton; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews friends and extended family. He is preceded in death by his mother Elmora "Momsella" Devine.

Born July 16, 1935 in New York City Joseph was baptized at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. After graduating from Cardinal Hayes High School he entered military service and served in the Air Force until he was honorably discharged on October 31, 1958. Joseph married Elouise (nee Fleming) on October 26, 1963 and they shared many wonderful years while raising their family. Joe enjoyed his family, entertaining friends, travel and road trips, was a sports fan and loved fishing. Ever faithful to his Catholic heritage he also delighted in attending services and celebrations at New Hope Baptist Church. With an outgoing personality, Joe never met a stranger. His playfulness and kindness touched all who knew him. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father and faithful relative and friend.

Now in our mourning we must say it is over and done. He is at peace with his Savior. This is the time we mourn but never to forget the love that he shared with each one of us. Let this family embrace each other as we remember our loved one in our special way.

A memorial service and reception is scheduled for Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the Family Life Center of New Hope Baptist Church, 3701 Colorado Blvd, Denver, 80205. Committal with Military Honors follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3695 S. Sheridan Boulevard, Denver, 80235.
