John W. (Jack) Windsor, 84, passed away at home in Santa Fe on January 9, 2013. He was born in Plainview, Texas, to John W. Windsor and Winifred Carruthers Windsor. Jack graduated from Albuquerque Academy and UNM and went to work as an engineer for Sandia Labs. In the 1970s, Jack did sound engineering at The Pit for rock bands, including the Rolling Stones and Jethro Tull. After retirement, he became a bartender at the Mine Shaft Tavern in Madrid, where he was affectionately known as the Bartender From Hell. In the 1980s and 90s, he was Santa Claus for the children of Madrid, Cerrillos and Kewa Pueblo.
Over the years, Jack saved the sanity (and finances) of many friends as a tax preparer. He loved music, especially rock & roll and jazz. He enjoyed a good joke and told a good story. In his later years, when asked to reflect on his life, Jack always said, "I had a lot of fun!"
Jack will be placed in the Madrid Cemetery on March 11, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a farewell celebration at the Mine Shaft Tavern Cantina.
