Son of John Charles and Margaret Hogan McLaughlin.
John was a 1956 United States Naval Academy graduate, a Naval Officer who served aboard U.S.S. Eversole, U.S.S. Rochester, and on the staff ComCruDesPac under the command of Admiral Smedberg and later Admiral Sharp, followed by his return to the Naval Academy, at the time the 7th and 8th wings were being constructed. He followed up his Naval service by being a Math teacher for 30 years, and Soccer coach for 25 seasons at Thomas Jefferson H.S. in Denver. John also taught Computer Programming in Fortran, Basic, and Pascal Languages, and also taught Science classes for a year.
He is survived by his son Michael McLAughlin and Daughters Molly Maxwell and Patty McLaughlin, and best friend, Nancy Baird, as well as 5 Granddaughters and 4 great-granddaughters.
John Enjoyed playing golf, dancing, travelling, swimming, fishing, camping, and going on cruises. He recently authored a book called "Murder at Pullman High". John was a member of Toastmasters' International for 20 years and won many speaking awards during that time. He also won the State Evaluation of Formal Speeches Contest. John was recognized by the Denver Coaches Association as "Coach of the Year" 3 times. He also coached in the All-State Soccer game on two occasions. He will be interred in Fort Logan National Cemetery alongside his previously deceased wife Janet. The Fort Logan service will take place on Thursday January 6th, 2022 at 11:30AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's name to St. Judes Children's Hospital.
