John Steven Kroupa of Northglenn passed away after a long battle with cancer on September 3rd, 2021. He was 59 years old, just 22 days short of his 60th birthday.
John was born on September 25th, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He studied at Kirkwood Community College, earning an A.A. in Retail Management and a B.S. in Business Admin, which he used to work his way up to management at Woolworths. He then shifted careers, earned his CDL and became a truck driver, eventually moving to Colorado. His career took him throughout the mountains, ski resorts and regularly through Denver. He built a large community of friends at all his delivery locations and was always known for his warm sense of humor and dedication to getting the job done. He was very proud of his impeccable safety record of 25 years and always checked the weather before he left for work to ensure he was ready for whatever may come.
John will be fondly remembered by family and friends as an avid outdoorsman, spending most of his time out at the lake fishing or hunting in the Colorado woodlands. When he wasn't working hard at his job or enjoying the outdoors, he spent his time watching old westerns while enjoying a cold Busch Light and the occasional Bird Dog Whiskey. He also loved racing his 2006 Dodge Charger at Bandimere Speedway. One of his proudest moments was winning the Street Elimination Semi-Finalist Trophy in 2015.
In early 2019, John was diagnosed with throat cancer and quickly underwent treatment. He was always a fighter and refused to give up; he had so much he wanted to accomplish with his early retirement. He was officially in remission as of November 2019 and enjoyed his early retirement out in nature, hunting and fishing with good friends, and continuing to race at Bandimere, until the cancer returned in July of 2021.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Kroupa, son Andrew Kroupa and daughter Kara Kroupa. Preceded in death by Brother Kevin Kroupa, Father Wencil (Pete) Kroupa and Mother Linda Kroupa.
A celebration of life is being planned for a future date. Please reach out to Kara Kroupa via email (kara.kroupa@gmail.com) for more details and to RSVP.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Tunnel to Towers, an organization that John cared very much for, would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made here .
