"John was not the man you expected him to be when you met him. Oh, the camouflage jacket announced he was a hunter, and he was quick to talk guns with anyone who was interested. His Navy hat worn constantly showed how proud he was to have served his country. His gruff manner (and the swearing in practically every sentence) showed he was a true sailor. But what was unexpected would be things like his choice of movies - Monsters, Inc. and Happy Feet were two of his favorites. His tender care of a plant received from a friend, and the raspberries he got so excited to harvest off his own vines. John only needed a friend or family member to ask for help, and he was there, tool bag in hand. He was delighted to share the stories of courting his wife, and the great surprises he gave her, and talked of how much he missed his children when he wasn't able to see them. He will be missed by so many."
