Jody L Becker (née Harms) died peacefully at home in Littleton, Colorado on August 14, 2020 at the age of 68.
Jody is survived by: her husband, Buddy ("Bud") Becker of Littleton; her children, Jennifer Kaplan of Lincoln, NE, Jeffrey Becker and his wife BJ Ireland of Laramie, WY, Steffan Becker and his wife Vicky of Littleton, and Maxwell Toledo-Becker and his wife Rachel of Commerce City, CO; her mom, Elaine Harms (née Richardson) of Kearney, NE; her sister, Kathleen Dougherty of York, NE; her aunt, Marie Miller of Cozad, NE; seven grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Laverne Harms.
Jody attended York College following her graduation from Gothenburg High School in 1970. After marrying Bud in 1974, the couple lived in Lincoln, while he finished law school, and Hastings, NE before moving to Littleton in 1986. Jody took a position in the trust department of a bank and would later work and volunteer as a teacher's aide. Jody greatly enjoyed being a mom and grandma.
Jody was accomplished at knitting and often donated knitted scarves, mittens, blankets, and other items to local schools and hospitals. With a fervor for the culinary arts, she had a collection of over 300 cookbooks. Wit was her weapon of choice which she wielded expertly, and she much appreciated those who returned the favor. She was also passionate about learning, reading and growing flowers.
She was diagnosed with MS in her twenties, but she refused to let MS keep her from pursuing life on her terms with an indomitable attitude. As described by one of her children, "My mom was the bravest woman I know and battled this horrible disease for 43 years. She fought long, she fought hard, and she fought well. I will miss you always and love you forever."
A Celebration of Jody's Life was held August 29, 2020 among the beautiful grounds at Hudson Gardens & Event Center in Littleton, CO. The family requests that any donations in her memory please be sent to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. bit.ly/jodybeckermemorial
