Joan was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico where she lived until age 12. Afterwards, Joan lived in Denver until she passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen, and is survived by two brothers, Mark and Garrett and a nephew, Mark Jr.
In some ways, Joan was a savant. Joan was an avid, advanced expert in the art of knitting and crocheting and for many years professionally taught others. Joan also studied the fine art of preparing meals from complex recipes and from time to time prepared exquisite dinners for family and friends. Joan loved movies and could recall exact lines. Joan showed a lot of compassion and care for friends, and also loved animals.
Joan's partner in life for more than two decades was a brilliant engineer who suffered a massive stroke a few years ago. He loved sailing. Life was not always smooth sailing for Joan though. At the age of two, Joan was diagnosed as having epilepsy which presented many challenges in her life. As summer passed and fall arrived this year, Joan was diagnosed with some new health obstacles. But her sudden death was a shock and not something planned, but you never know what awaits you. My sister requested that the following words be spoken from her at her service: "Celebrate every moment of life possible, remember me with smiles and laughter for that is how I'll remember you - if you remember me with only sadness and tears then don't remember me at all."
Joan made an extra effort to visit her many cousins and relatives back east in New York and New Jersey. This was very important to her, and she cherished being connected to so many people despite them being so far away. Joan will be fondly remembered by her neighbors, friends, and family - those that were close to Joan will miss her greatly.
At this time let us remember the bible verse John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him shall not parish but have ever lasting life."
