Jean-Pierre Louis Durand, 74, of Vallauris, France, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2018 surrounded by family in his daughter's home.
Jean-Pierre was born to Andre and Honoree, March 16, 1944, in Paris, France. He studied engineering in France, where he then began his career. He married Cynthia A. Capalupa in 1975 in Antony, just outside Paris and they lived together in Corsica and then New York, as well as traveling in South America and Europe. Together they raised two children. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his adoring children: Maya Allen (Ryan Allen) and Jonathan Durand, and his beloved grandson, Von Allen. His children remember him as a smart, funny, life-long learner whom they admired and loved very much. He was preceded in death by Nicole Lalubie (sister), Andre Durand (father), Honoree Durand (mother), and Philippe Durand (brother).
Jean-Pierre was a structural engineer, working in France, the U.S., and Morocco. Despite retiring in 2011, he continued to consult on projects for friends and family. He loved to travel, go sailing, and take in all that life had to offer. He also maintained a group of very close friends for more than 50 years. Jean-Pierre's life will be celebrated with friends and family in Paris on July 4th and in Vallauris on July 8th. Some of his ashes will be scattered in the Seine (Paris) near where he was born and in the Mediterranean Sea (Côte d'Azur) where he sailed and made his home near in recent years.
The family respectfully requests that donations be made to The Denver Hospice at thedenverhospice.org in honor of the love and care they provided in these last few months. "...freedom is the very nature of his being, that whatever stands against that freedom must be set aside, be it ritual or superstition or limitation in any form."- Richard Bach, 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'.
