Jason passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 3, 2016 after a very courageous battle with brain cancer. Jason was born in Santa Fe, NM on October 8, 1978. Jason was an extremely family oriented person. He cherished close relationships with many cousins, aunts and uncles growing up. While still in high school, Jason started his career in the optical field, a path he continued on through the rest of his life. For the past 10 years, Jason worked at the Family Eye Clinic in Denver. He was loved by co-workers, vendors and clients because of his work ethic, caring and kind personality.
Jason had a knack for bringing a joyful presence around anyone that knew him. This was evident by the network of friendships he forged over the 12 years he lived in Denver Colorado. These friendships were what kept his spirits up and his drive to fight during his battle with brain cancer and fittingly named by him the "#Bang Bang Gang". Jason was very compassionate and hosted many teams to raise funds for the CO AIDs Walk and most recently, the Brain Tumor Alliance.
Jason had a passion for being active and fit. He spent a lot of his free time in the gym or outdoors. He loved going to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and took a lot of his close friends from Denver to NM to enjoy this event. Jason loved trying different foods and became a self-proclaimed food critic, with his legendary stamp of approval "#Beulah approved" for great food. Him and his partner Brandon, enjoyed trying new restaurants, especially anywhere that had tacos. One of Jason's many great one-liners was "live everyday like it's Taco Tuesday".
Jason is preceded in death by his grandparents Oswaldo and Rafaelita Montoya and Warren Bangs, aunts Toni Montoya, Marie Baca and uncle Gilbert Baca. Jason is survived by his partner Brandon Buxmann; his parents, David and Patti Bangs; grandmother, Betty Bangs; Sister, Lisa and husband Stephen Gagliardi; brother Jeremy Bangs; nephew Orion Gagliardi; numerous aunts uncles and cousins and loyal dachshund hound Dottie.
Funeral mass will be celebrated, Friday March 18, 2016 at 10am at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Church in Santa Fe, NM. Pallbearers will be Brandon Buxmann, Ernesto Calvo, Lawrence Fuqua. A celebration of life will be held, Sunday April 3, 2016 in Denver, at Washington Park at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for those that want to honor Jason, to sign up for the Denver Brain Tumor Alliance Walk on Saturday, April 2, 2016 under the team Bang Bang Gang or make a donation to the Team http://events.braintumoralliance.org/site/TR/WalkRun/General?team_id=3220&pg=team&fr_id=1230
