James "Jim" McCampbell

April 2, 1961 — February 18, 2021

James Clay “Jim” McCampbell of Artesia, New Mexico passed away on Thursday, February 18th, 2021 at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque, NM.

Jim is survived by a younger brother, Eric McCampbell and wife, Theresa; a younger sister, Laura McCampbell-Maxwell and husband, Jim, as well as four children: Ian and Ethen Watts, and Jubal and Shawnee McCampbell, and seven beautiful grandchildren: Bianka, Anniyah, Madison, Genisaie, Raelin, Roman and Jonah, all of whom he was very proud of.

Jim was born on April 2nd, 1961 in Lubbock, Texas to Barba and Jerry Don McCampbell, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a spitfire who always had to cause mischief anywhere he went, it was his belief that life just isn’t any fun without a little chaos, and he will be remembered and dearly missed by those who enjoyed his antics. Jim was known for his confidence, never afraid to say what was on his mind. He was also lovingly crowned ‘King of Useless Knowledge’ by his family, though they always called him when they had a random question, often claiming that it was faster to call Dad for the answer than it was to just 'Google it'. Jim was also the resident 'taste-tester' of any food prepared in the house and was more than proud to hold that title.

Jim never went anywhere unless he was armed with his favorite baby-pink pocketknife and made sure his kids were never without one as well. He was an involved father, from teaching his children firearm safety to ensuring that his kids maintained their hobbies proudly and diligently. He enjoyed teaching his family to thrive in the great outdoors, taking them fishing and hunting, and teaching them how to start a fire and build a shelter when necessary, Jim always made sure his kids were prepared for the worst that this world had to offer. Jim also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing multiple musical instruments, and telling stories about his childhood memories with his mamaw and papaw. He always said those memories with his grandparents were the happiest times of his life; his children plan to recall these stories with their own children one day. Jim was full of life lessons that the people around him will remember forever. Jim’s children take great comfort in knowing that he is at peace and reunited with his loved ones who preceded him in death.

Services will be held at Terrace Cemetery in Post, TX at a later date.
