Jim Reid passed away from this world on Nov 6th, 2018 (aged 67). He was born in Lindsay, CA
in 1951, to James Ferguson Reid Jr. and Patricia Lee Reid. He grew up in Albuquerque, NM
and Santa Fe, NM was his home for over 35 years.
Jim was a healer and teacher. He embodied love, light, and laughter. He sought to create
meaningful connections, and he offered great respect and care to others.
He graduated from Valley High School in Albuquerque in 1969 before attending NMSU in Las Cruces,
where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering in. Jim worked at Los Alamos Nat’l
Lab, the State of New Mexico, and Frank's Plumbing & Heating as an engineer but soon began
practicing massage therapy part-time. He changed careers to massage therapy full-time in the
early 1990s, and began working with High Desert Healthcare not long after.
His innate talent for mechanics, physics, and kinetics was showcased in his therapy. Jim helped
his clients understand their bodies, succinctly describing the anatomy and movement relating to
each problem under his hands. Jim was dedicated student and teacher of Tai Chi Ch’uan and
Qi Gong martial arts forms and incorporated energy work into his therapy practice.
Jim’s eyes would light up with mischief as he began to tell you a funny anecdote. As a
prodigious reader of books and teller of stories, he always had something to share and loved to
talk with family and friends for hours over a coffee. He loved games and silliness and giggled all
the time. He read out loud to his children for countless hours, and assisted with their
homeschooling studies. Jim valued practicality and integrity, and sought out balance and
authenticity in his life.
Holding Jim's memory in our hearts are his beloved wife Ann Jennings Reid, children Alyssa
Reid and Ivy Reid (of a former marriage), sister Donna Reid, brother David Reid, the Whitelock
Family, Lisa Reid and Neal Lowe, Klaus Zurschmitten, and many more friends and family. We
will miss you more than words can express.
Jim's ashes will be spread in the mountains near Santa Fe. A memorial ceremony will be held in
Santa Fe in January 2019. Remembrance donations may be made to the National Forest
Foundation or Rocky Mountain Youth Corps. Condolences may be sent to Alyssa Reid at 5048
NE 11th Ave., Portland, OR 97211.
