Better known as Jimmy or “JO” Owen. Jimmy passed away at home in Nashville, TN on Oct. 29, 2018 with his wife and friend by his side. Pre-deceased by his parents Eunice and James Owen, he leaves behind his beloved wife Alice, cousin Fran Owen and family, cousin David Harris and family, and brothers-in-law Robert and Stratton Leedy and their families. Born Aug. 6, 1947 in Atlanta, Ga., Jimmy developed a passion for audio at an early age. As a student at Dykes High School, he became fast friends with the school Principal by fixing the school PA system. Jimmy established “Owen Audio” in 1962. Considered among the best concert sound engineers and innovators in the industry, he provided sound for acts such as Willie Nelson, Smokey Robinson, Lynard Skynard, Billie Joel, The Gatlin Brothers, and many others. His devotion to the quality of his analog sound resulted in a 30-year relationship providing sound for George Jones. Always willing to share his knowledge or a funny story, Jimmy was happiest with the “love of his life” Alice by his side behind a sound board at a concert, on their houseboat, or tinkering with something mechanical. Supporting Alice’s love of wild animals, he placed a sign in their yard where she fed them that said “Alice’s Restaurant” where they would spend evenings watching her furry friends show up to eat. The wonderful memories he provided everyone that knew him will live on. Jimmy was cremated and a private Celebration of his Life was held on December 9th. Alive Hospice helped Alice with Jimmy’s care and they are grateful for any donations to their charitable organization.
