James Alex McGhee, age 59, passed away on January 7, 2020 after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was born in Knoxville, TN on November 18th, 1960. Beloved husband and greatest friend to his wife, Lisa, and a devoted father to his children, Brittany, Courtney and Alex Jr, along with his fur babies, Katie and Lucy. Also survived by his father, James "Jim" McGhee, mother, Joan McGhee, sister, Marcy Cantrell, brother-in-law, Eric Cantrell, along with several nephews, nieces, great nieces and great nephews. Also survived by his mother-in-law, Gladys Sells, sister-in-law, Debbie Stanfill and brother-in-law, Tom Stanfill. Alex is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Some of Alex’s happiest times were spent playing with his grandson, Samson Alexander, son of Courtney and Jeffrey Alexander Geddes. He also enjoyed spending time in Gatlinburg at his ‘happy place’ with his family and friends. Anyone who knew Alex could appreciate his humor and quick wit, even if his stories were just a "tad" inappropriate at times. Alex never met a stranger in his life, which was a genuine quality of his. You could always catch him saying "love you man" at the end of every conversation with his buddies or yanking their tail about stories from their past. He was a "guy's, guy" and anyone would attest to that. He loved fishing, restoring automobiles, tinkering with his antique radios and watching college football (GO VOLS!!) He will be deeply missed but will never be forgotten. In honor of Alex, a Celebration of Life is planned to be held on Saturday, March 21st, 2020 at Cedar Forest Lodge in Cedars of Lebanon. Hours will be between 1:00pm and 5:00pm. We hope you will join us in the commemoration of this wonderful man that we all knew and loved.
