James Richard Kellogg,
Known by his friends as Jimmy, his brother and sister and their families as Jim and Uncle Jim, his daughters as Daddy, and his grandkids as Papa
Born and raised in Lincoln, NE to John and Grace Kellogg, older sister Mary Ann (Davis) and older brother John. Jim was an excellent athlete, playing football and wrestling through high school. He was an avid golfer; in fact no one in Lincoln could beat him.
Jim served 3 years in the Navy as a dental corpsman. He trained at the United States Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA, and traveled to Okinawa in the service. After his honorary discharge from the Navy, he attended Parks School of Business in Denver, where he earned straight A's in accounting and graduated at the top of his class. He was an accountant for Shakey's Pizza in Denver.
Jim married Evalene (Evie) Hock on September 6, 1969, and 2 daughters were born to them: Laura (Althen) and Lisa (Aanonsen). In 2009 he became a grandfather, and from then on his heart belonged to Braedon Arai (age 7), Peyton Marie (age 7), and Shafer Olaf (age 4). He had many nieces and nephews who would travel from around the country to visit.
My dad was an accomplished photographer, and enjoyed camping, the beautiful outdoors and travel; he expressed himself creatively and connected with his people through leather craft, board games, BINGO, and a nice cup of coffee at his favorite diner. My dad was a life-long Nebraska Cornhusker fan, and right up to the very end he followed the team's rankings and could haggle a bit with any rival.
Jim was a devoted father, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He was a loyal friend always, with life-long friends and new friends wherever he went. My dad had many hardships throughout his life, but he never lost his focus from his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. With Jesus at the helm, my Dad lived his life with joy despite his struggle with mental and physical illnesses. He laughed and smiled every time we saw him. It's that "chuckle-greeting" of his, and his sparkly blue eyes, kind-heartedness, tolerance, patience, and inner joy that will be greatly missed by the caregivers, friends and family that Dad touched with his life. May we all carry a piece of that joy with us to honor his life and remember his smile.
