James Gilberto

James Vincent Gilberto, “Jim”, 72, of Estes Park, Colorado passed away peacefully Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Windsong Memory Care in Greeley, Co. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mary Ellen Gilberto.  He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Byrd Gilberto, daughters Melissa Lavingne, Meggan (Dan) Mulinazzi, sons Louis and Vincenzo Gilberto, step children Bob and Katie Myers, grandchildren Carmen and Rosie Lavingne and Anthony and Sam Mulinazzi.  Jim is also survived by his sister Kathleen (Manuel) Calero and many nieces and nephews.

Jim graduated from Addison Trail High School in 1968 where he earned a full scholarship in gymnastics to Iowa State University. Jim was a member of the NCAA championship gymnastic team and graduated from ISU in 1972.  After graduation he worked for Mickelson Group Inc., a sporting goods agency in Naperville, Illinois, for over 40 years and retired in 2015.

Jim retired to Estes Park, Colorado in 2015, to hike and enjoy the beauty of the land.  Jim was known by his friends and family for his love of life, dogs, food, and fun.  Jim’s life cannot be defined by his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, but by his love for family and friends.
