Jacqueline Hooten

Jacqueline (Jackie aka Nana) Rosenberg Hooten, age 83, born in Fort Worth, raised in Brownwood, Texas and a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was promoted to Heaven November 15th, 2020 with her family by her side after a long illness.  Jackie is survived by her devoted husband of over 30 years, Harley Hooten; her daughters Sherrie L. McBride and her husband Pat of Albuquerque, NM; Deborah Orts Hill and her husband Michael Dorris of Blanco, TX; Kathleen A. Dikitolia and her husband David of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Patrick McBride, Natalie Munson, Nathan Hill, Emily Hill and Danielle Nicholson.  Nana was a proud great grandmother to six great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her son, Andrew Bert Orts; father, Gustave Jack Rosenberg; and mother, Alleta E. Benninger Rosenberg.

She was beautiful, smart as a whip and courageous.  She loved her beloved family and her many dogs to which was her favorite, Tut, her 195lb Great Dane who loved to sit in her lap.  She lived life to the fullest with no apologies and was known to drive the family car “The Destroyer” around a dirt track in the Albuquerque area.

She loved mariachi music.  Her daughters recall a trip to Mexico where they dined at a restaurant while listening to mariachi music.  She paid the band to leave their gig and follow the family back to the hotel where they serenaded her by the pool the rest of the afternoon.  For her 80th birthday the daughters arranged to have mariachi singers show up to the house to serenade her once again.  She smiled, closed her eyes and drifted back to the days of Mexico.

Nana possessed a fierce love of the Lord and was a member of Forest Meadow Baptist Church.  Often she and Harley would share a quote from a Gaither Christian music video.  Harley, “It’s a battle field brother”; Nana, “It’s not a recreation room”;  Harley, “It’s a fight”;  Nana “It’s not a game”  She would remind her youngest daughter, Katie, to let her great grandson, Killian, know to love the Lord as she did.  Killian, Nana wishes she would have gotten to know you better and had seen you grow up.  Nana, Katie wants to let you know “We promise to do that mom! I hope I will not disappoint you.”

On October 23rd her daughters told her that it was “ok to go home” to which she replied “I know, I’m just waiting on my ride.”  She will be dearly missed.
