Humphrey "King" Hastings Jr.

Born February 9, 1934 in Greenville, South Carolina to Humphrey King Hastings Sr. and Margaret Eleanor Hunt. Passed away Friday afternoon, August 7, 2015 surrounded by his loving wife and children.

He married Elspeth Agnes Edge on June 8, 1957 in Tokyo, Japan.

He earned his BA in microbiology at University of Arizona and then went on to earn his Master's degree in Clinical Chemistry at Ohio State while a member of the United States Air Force, from which he retired after many years of service in 1974. Following his Air Force time, he volunteered with great enthusiasm for the United Methodist Church, Bureau of Land Management, and the US National Forest.

He is survived by Margaret "Marty" Smith (Jeff), Morris Hastings (Robin), Mark Hastings (Cheryl), Elspeth Tapp, his sister Emily Daniel, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and Gus his beloved dog.

He was a long-time member of Smoky Hill United Methodist Church. His hobbies included bicycling, backpacking, volunteer forest ranger, theater, opera, world traveler, and was a great story teller. A great bicycle enthusiast he road across the United States from coast to coast and participated in Ride the Rockies three times, "ordained Bishop of Utah in the Church of World Peace", Lay Leader for United Methodist Church, and was a Boy Scout Leader.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Koinonia Farms (koinoniafarms.org) or to UMC Board of Global Ministries Rocky Mountain Conference (rmcumc.org). This would honor King's spirit of giving.
