Dr. Hugh A Derby passed away on April 23, 2015. He is survived by his wife Pat, his daughters Lauren and Keelin and his son Brian.
A product of the baby boomer era, Hugh was born in the Bronx borough of New York, New York to Hugh Derby, Sr. and Lucille Johnson Derby on September 1, 1948. He has two sisters, Dr. Doris Derby and Paulene Scott.
After graduating Howard University in the late 1970s, Hugh attended medical school at Tufts University and went on to complete his residency at Duke University, in North Carolina. Hugh later became Director of the Emergency Department at Philadelphia's Misericordia Hospital in the 1980s. He held positions in Emergency medicine throughout the greater Philadelphia area throughout the 80s, 90s, and into the 2000s. He later worked as a physician on an Indian Reservation in South Dakota and at a military base in Colorado before retiring in 2014.
Hugh was well accomplished outside of his expertise in medicine. In his 67 years, Hugh traveled throughout the world, drove cross country twice, logged 120 sky dives, ran the Boston Marathon 5 times, hiked the Appalachian Trail, Scuba dove across the world....
Hugh will always be well regarded for his calm demeanor, intellect and kindness. His daughters will miss his caring nature and his son aspires to be like Hugh in manhood and eventual fatherhood. Patricia, his wife of 30 years, through thick and thin, will miss her backpacking partner and best friend.
