Harrison Sudborough

February 21, 1925 — March 16, 2019

Long time Santa Fe resident, Harrison Cobb Sudborough, passed away on March 16th, 2019 at the age of 94.  Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Harrison was a WWII veteran, an athlete (high diving), a German teacher (New York), and an artist (Santa Fe).   He had a capacious intellect and vibrant wit that could entertain both young and old.  He pursued interests in photography (some of which for The New Mexican), writing (as an art critic and novelist), and painting.  He had an extended fascination with Goethe and was a lover of jazz and dance.  He is survived by two daughters and by a community of dear friends who entertained him, cared for him, and delighted in his presence.

(A celebration of life is being planned, please check back here for details)

Friends have expressed their admiration in this way:

“A true friend, sly trickster, and a wily Zen master, Harrison is also a world class dancer and still cutting a rug well into his 90s, with or without his walker.  Sending you bushels of light and love and healing juju, old friend.  You have a whole army of supporters behind you in this final chapter of your storied life, and I am proud to count myself among them. “
