Hal "Rex" Barton, 66, of Denver, CO, unexpectedly passed away on August 21, 2015. Rex was born in Purcell, OK, to Dorothy (Black) and George Barton. Rex graduated from Edmond High School in 1966 and began his career in printing. He enlisted in the Army in 1969. He served his country for three years including two years in Germany and separated from active duty service in 1972 when he returned to the Oklahoma City area and resumed working in the printing industry.
Rex was married to Alice Railton from 1969-1988. Rex and Alice joyfully welcomed a son, Chris Barton, to their family in 1975. Rex married Susan Graham in 1989 and they moved to Denver, CO, in 1992. Rex and Susan's son, James Barton, was born in 1994. Rex retired from printing in 2003. After Susan retired in 2013, they enjoyed taking trips with their travel trailer and had just returned from a trip to Minnesota.
Rex had a great love for family, God and country. He ardently supported the Boy Scouts of America, both in the Last Frontier Council in Oklahoma and the Denver Area Council in Colorado. Although he did not have the opportunity to experience Scouting as a boy, he was very involved in the program with both of his sons and had completed Woodbadge training. He was involved in district and council activities including adult training, Pinewood Derbys, Day Camp, Camporee, Eagle Scout Advisor and was the recipient of several Scouting awards. Rex was also an avid outdoorsman. From an early age in life he loved fishing and was happiest when he had a fishing pole in hand. He also enjoyed hunting, water skiing and snow skiing.
Rex is survived by his wife Susan of the home, sons: Chris (Mandy) and James (fiancee Miriam); three grandchildren: Josephine, Eliza and Gideon; brothers: Orvil Dean (Estelle), Rick (Nadina) and sister-in-law Carol; in-laws Ron and Margaret Graham and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jerry Don and Elmer Dale. Rex will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. His presence in our lives will be celebrated in both Aurora, CO and Oklahoma City, OK.
Rex requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a favorite charity.
