Gwen Jordan

April 12, 1933 — January 21, 2016

Gwen Elaine Jordan died on January 21, 2016. Her family held her tenderly in her passing, singing hymns in celebration and weeping tears in separation.

Gwen's family legacy continues in her husband Patrick and her children; Kristy and Jenny, Becca and Dave, Craig and Jenny, and Eileen (EG) and Dave. She nurtured deeply her grandchildren; Jordan and Dan, Taylor, Christian, Kristy, Jenna, Cheyenne, Joseph, Jeremy, Collin, Calvin, and Jack; and cuddled her great-granddaughter Paisley into the family.

Gwen was born on April 12, 1933 in Deer River, Minnesota, to Glen and Irene Thompson. She graduated from Hibbing High School, along with her sisters Eleanor and Grace. Gwen was conferred a Bachelor of Arts from San Diego State College (now SDSU) and worked as a Social Worker in greater Los Angeles. After moving to Colorado, Gwen worked in marketing for two predominant hotel chains, then found her sweet spot, running retirement communities and advocating for the rights of the elderly.

Gwen was actively involved in Rockland Community Church, Highlands Church Denver and several local high-touch charities. Known affectionately as "The Mama," she was adored by many marginalized people, who found her wide open arms welcoming all into the family of God. Gwen was passionate about quilting and loved meeting with her friends to create beautiful gifts for others - especially Family Tree, a charity committed to ending child abuse, domestic violence, and homelessness.

The Mama's memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary of Rockland Community Church located at 17 S. Mt Vernon Country Club Road, Golden, CO. A short reception will follow and then we'll "be like Gwen" and turn to pour out love on our friends, family and community.

Any memorial donations may be made to the Family Tree (www.TheFamilyTree.org) or Highlands Church Denver (www.HighlandsChurchDenver.org). The family requests no flowers or gifts.
