Grace Lawrence Lehmann, 85, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, returned home to
God on October 14, 2020, at Broomfield Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Memory Care Unit,
Broomfield, CO. Grace was born on March 15, 1935 in Schenectady, NY to the late William H C and
Elizabeth Lawrence Lehmann.
Grace had a strong and enduring faith in God. Her greatest joy was being with her family, and she was
always quick to say that the best job she ever had was being a mother to her four children. She was
caring, gentle and kind, and had a beautiful smile that would light up a room. She will always be in our
hearts.
Although Grace and her children moved often in their early years, they settled in Seminole, Florida in
1968 and called the Sunshine State home. She enjoyed the wonderful weather, going to the beach and
watching the beautiful sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico.
After raising her children, Grace began a meaningful career in social work. With a strong dedication to
helping others, she assisted the elderly and offered hope and her unwavering support to victims of
domestic violence. The impact she made on those struggling to find their voice and light will never be
forgotten.
All four of Grace's children attended the University of Florida and she was a proud "Gator Mom". She
was a huge fan of the Gator football team, attending games in Gainesville and cheering them on
throughout her life. As she grew older and her memory began to fade, she never failed to chant “It’s great
to be a Florida Gator” at every family gathering!
Music was an important part of Grace's life. She enjoyed a wide variety of music and loved sharing it
with everyone she met. As a child, her mother would take her to New York City to see the musicals on
Broadway, which she continued to enjoy throughout her life. From her earliest days until her passing,
she would sing and dance with her family, friends, children and, eventually, her caregivers. At times, we
would see her listening to music and conducting the orchestra! Grace was also an avid reader, and
almost always had a cup of hot tea next to her. She loved to travel and explore, and carried a camera
with her everywhere she went.
Grace was preceded in death by her son, James Rowan. She is survived by her son Dr. Frank (Gina)
Rowan of Greensboro, NC, her daughter Jeanne (Patrick) Lombardi of Westminster, CO, and her son
Michael (Susan) Rowan of Richmond Hill, Georgia; her grandchildren Sheryl Lombardi, Niki (Mark)
Avery, Michelle (Craig) Brede, Kristin (Kasey) Grubb, Michael (Danielle) Rowan, Jr., Andrew Rowan,
Joseph Rowan, and Brooke Rowan; great-grandchildren Ryan May, Jack May, Kendall Avery, Robby
Avery, Aubrey Anna Rowan, Sheila Rowan, Mathew Rowan, Juliette Grubb and Cailyn Brede; her sister
Margaret (David) Smith of Fort Worth, TX, and her brother William Lehmann of Center Sandwich, NH.
A celebration of Grace's life – full of music, love and wonderful memories – will take place at a later
date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, alz.org.
