Gerald Martinez

Gerald L. "Jerry" Martinez, Aurora, Colorado, died at home on October 30, 2015. Jerry was born on November 10, 1940 in Pueblo, CO to his parents James Christian Martinez and Edna Mae (Mehan) Sanchez. Raised in Pueblo, Jerry met the love of his life Nancy Rivas as neighbors on Pine Street. After their marriage in 1960, they lived in Pueblo where their children were born and raised.

Jerry graduated from Pueblo Central High School, and completed two years of higher education at Colorado State University (formerly Southern Colorado State College). Jerry worked as a sales executive for Pepsi-Cola in Pueblo until 1990 and then Jerry and Nancy moved to Aurora where he continued to work for Pepsi-Cola until 1993. During his time in Pueblo, Jerry was involved in community and civic organizations where he received recognition for his involvement.

Sports and the values it teaches were very important to Jerry. He enjoyed playing, managing, coaching, and watching. He was a player/manager for several Pueblo fast pitch softball teams which qualified for world tournaments during the 1960's, 1970's, and through the mid 1980's. During the latter years of his life Jerry enjoyed playing golf with his buddies many of whom he grew up with or attended high school.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, sister Joanne Sanchez , sister Sharon Sanchez and his beloved wife Nancy. He is survived by brother James Martinez. A dedicated and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jerry is survived by his children, Jacqueline Renee Taton (Bruce), Jodeen Jerri Carrillo, Christopher Gerald Martinez (Katie). His grandchildren are Christian Anthony Carrillo (Shelly), Jonathan Paul Carrillo (Mae), Gerald Gregory Carrillo, Bryan Michael Heckman, Catherine Elizabeth Heckman, Brianna Nicole Martinez, Christopher Gerald Martinez II, Madison Marie Martinez, Isabella Christine Martinez and his great granddaughters Alexa Jaye Carrillo and Wynter Grace Carrillo.

We will celebrate his life in a mass at his beloved church - St. Francis Xavier Church 611 Logan Ave, Pueblo, CO 81004 on Saturday November 7th, 2015 at 10 a.m. immediately followed by a reception at The Union Depot.
