Gary Schumacher

Gary Keith Schumacher, age 63 died in his sleep at his home on Saturday, August 16, 2014. He was born April 14th, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Clarence and Lillian Schumacher. He spent his childhood in many places. He worked for Northwestern Bell phone company 40 years which changed names many times over the years and is now Century Link. Gary was a phone technician and trainer, climbing telephone poles and repairing service lines for families and businesses throughout Colorado. Customers and supervisors alike valued Gary's professionalism, hard work, and caring personality. A supervisor shared that Gary was nominated for the "Stamp of Quality" award and said that, "he's a first rate customer service technician who goes out of his way to provide service and understanding for our customers. The quality of his work is superb." A customer wrote a letter about Gary's work to his employer saying, "you have a one in a million person working for you." Gary always made everyone laugh, he loved to joke around, and he was committed to taking care of his family. He adored his wife Bonnie, his three children Shelly, Ruth, and Jarred Schumacher, and his two grandchildren Ariyana and Gabe. He enjoyed playing cards, hiking in Colorado, riding his motorcycles, and collecting old phone equipment.

Gary was survived by his wife Bonnie Schumacher of Aurora, Colorado, his sister Dianne Peck and her husband Jerry Peck of Runnells, Iowa, his brother-in-law Cliff Kennie of Buena Vista, Colorado, his daughter Michele McCarty of Omaha, Nebraska, her husband Cary, and their daughters Diamond and Ariyana and son Cary Jr. his daughter Ruth Schumacher of St. Louis, Missouri, her fiancé Joe Martinez, and their son Gabriel Martinez, and his son Jarred Schumacher of Cherokee, Iowa, and his step children Ryan LaMantia and his family of Denver Colorado, Luke Rold of Los Angeles, California, and Maggie Rold of New York City, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Lillian Schumacher, his sister Janice Kennie, and his niece Laurie Hotchkiss.

Services to honor Gary and celebrate his life will be held at Horan and McConaty 1091 S. Colorado Boulevard, Denver, Colorado, 80246 on Friday, August 22nd at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of his mother, Lillian, who he loved dearly.
