Evelyne P. Whalin, 93, passed away in the Brookdale Meridian Senior care facility in Englewood, Colorado on July 2, 2020 due to cancer. She was born on April 11, 1927 in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude Pyle.
After graduating in 1945 from West High School in Denver, Evelyne moved to Baltimore, MD and attended Baltimore Junior College, obtaining a business degree. She also attended Peabody Conservatory of Music while there. Evelyne married William Crissman in Baltimore in 1945, however the marriage ended in 1950 and Evelyne retuned to Meeker, CO where she met William Whalin, and they married on Christmas Eve 1950.
Evelyne and William moved to Grand Junction, CO in 1951 where she began a 27 year career as an executive secretary and office manager. From 1951 until 1959 Evelyne worked for Will Employment Company, Mesa College, Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce, and Swinerton & Walberg Co on the Atomic Energy Commission compound. Their only child, Mark, was born in 1952.
While in the Grand Junction area, Evelyne enjoyed volunteering as chaperone for the Palisade Peach Queen pageant for 9 years. She also enjoyed playing the piano and singing. She was very supportive of her son, Mark, for many years from grade school through High School with his Science Fair projects, which involved driving to events in Colorado and Wyoming.
Evelyne and William moved to Denver in 1971 where in 1973 she became the office manager for Dr. James H. Pearce, which continued until 1981. Evelyne and William enjoyed owning a home in Denver until 2004, when William passed away. Evelyne moved to the St. Andrews Senior living center in Aurora in 2007 and lived there until her passing in 2020.
In addition to her parents, Henry and Gertrude Pyle, and both husbands, Evelyne is predeceased by her only sister, Irene. Surviving are her son, Mark Whalin and wife Carolyn of Aguilar, Colorado and three Grandchildren, Laura Whalin, Tom Whalin, and Mike Whalin, plus 2 Great Grandchildren, Julia and Andrew.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Brookdale Meridian in Englewood and Bloom Healthcare for their compassionate care given to Evelyne during her last days.
A service of remembrance will be held at a location and time to be announced in the near future.
